Édition de luxe sur trois CD. Comprend l'album original avec un audio nouvellement remasterisé, ainsi qu'un concert inédit enregistré le 18 février 1971 au Capitol Theatre de Port Chester, New York. Le spectacle a été mixé à partir des bandes maîtresses analogiques de 16 pistes de Jeffrey Norman aux studios Tri de Marin County de Bob Weir et masterisé par l'ingénieur primé aux Grammy Awards, David Glasser. Le joyau de la production studio des Dead ! Les 10 titres originaux de l'album incluent bon nombre des chansons les plus connues, les plus appréciées et les plus populaires des Dead, tant sur disque qu'en concert au cours des 25 prochaines années. Un album comprenant Box Of Rain, Friend Of The Devil, Sugar Magnolia, Candyman, Ripple, Brokedown Palace, Attics Of My Life et Truckin' ressemble plus à une compilation de grands succès qu'à un deuxième album de 1970, et pourtant American Beauty démontre un groupe incapable de ralentir en termes de qualité d'écriture, d'enregistrement et d'interprétation.
